This story from Joan Chittister might explain the title of this blog:
"Where shall I look for Enlightenment?" the disciple asked [and I think Enlightenment can be read as "awareness," "salvation," "redemption," "grace," "God," "Christ," "the Spirit," probably several others].
"Here," the elder said.
"When will it happen?" the disciple wanted to know.
"It is happening right now," the elder said.
"Then why don't I experience it?" the disciple asked.
And the elder answered, "Because you do not look."
"But what should I look for?" the disciple wanted to know.
And the elder smiled and answered, "Nothing. Just look."
"But at what?" the disciple insisted.
"Anything your eyes alight upon," the elder continued.
"Well, then, must I look in a special kind of way?" the disciple said.
"No," the elder said.
"Why ever not?" the disciple persisted.
And the elder said quietly, "Because to look you must be here. The problem is that you are moslty somewhere else."

I love this story because I know it to be so true in my own spiritual journey. And there are moments every day when I suddenly realize that "I'm not here." Wherever "here" is. I am somewhere else, looking for something, that's already right here. Franciscan Richard Rohr says "the spiritual world is hidden and perfectly revealed in the physical world." Only I often don't have the eyes to see or the ears to hear. So I've started doing a system check on myself. And periodically asking, throughout my day, "where am I now?" Where is the unearned, undeserved, and always unexpected grace here, now?
