Baptism initiates us into Christ's One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. But those who have been baptised at an early age are expected, whey they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith. This form of initiation into the Episcopal Church takes place through the rite of confirmation and reception. Confirmation is the rite in which we expres a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and laying on of hands by a bishop. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 860). If you have been baptized and confirmed in another Catholic communion, you can be received into the Episcopal Church in a ceremony celebrated by the bishop. A period of preparation and study with the Priest-in-charge and other mature Christians is required. To arrange for one of these rites, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
